A grass fire near Shueyville spread to a nearby building earlier this week.
According to the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department, which serves Swisher and Shueyville, firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire on the 3000 block of 120th street just before 12:15 Wednesday afternoon. Upon arrival, a private citizen confirmed to dispatch that the wildfire had spread to a nearby structure, and North Liberty firefighters were called for mutual aid.
Tanker personnel made a fast attack on the structure, keeping the flames contained to the exterior. The remaining responding units worked quickly to suppress the fast-spreading timber and grass fire, which at its height spanned over ten acres.
No citizens were injured. One firefighter was transported to the hospital after returning to quarters.
Dry weather earlier this week led to multiple other area grass fires.
