A North Liberty man on trial for first degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s stepmother last year allegedly made a Snapchat video after the incident confessing to the crime.
The Gazette reports the video played for the jury Thursday showed Tacoa Talley standing behind his girlfriend, Samantha Bevans of Palo, as she records the two of them in a Cedar Rapids motel room July 16, 2022 — two days after the two are accused of suffocating Jodie Bevans in her Palo home by holding a pillow over her face.
In the video, Samantha Bevans says, “I killed her. I killed her myself,” as Talley says “And I knew this would happen, so good job.”
The prosecution rested after testimony from an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation special agent about the Snapchat video. Cellphone data and motel surveillance footage was also entered as evidence against Talley.
The couple reportedly committed the murder in order to get at money that they believed was in the family’s home safe.
Samantha Bevans is to be tried separately in Benton County District Court beginning September 25.
