An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant stemming from an incident in February where he poured a cup of gasoline on a victim.
55-year-old Kurt Brookhart was in his residence the afternoon of February 14th, which was a violation of a no-contact order with a member of the household. Witnesses report Brookhart conversing with the protected party at the time. He allegedly forced entry into the victim’s room without consent, and poured a cup of gasoline on him before striking him with a metal stick multiple times.
Brookhart reportedly left the scene before officers arrived. Police say the assault was seen by a witness, and the victim had two large bruises on the left side of his body as a result of the alleged assault.
A warrant was issued for Brookhart’s arrest on February 20th; he was booked into the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning. Brookhart faces charges of 1st degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and Contempt for violating the no-contact order. If convicted on all charges, he could be sentenced to up to 26 years in prison.
