Cedar Rapids Police have arrested a man who they say violated a no-contact order, stabbing a woman repeatedly.
The incident occurred just before 3am Wednesday, when officers were dispatched to the 5800 block of Pheasant Drive SW following the report of a domestic disturbance. Officers located an adult female suffering from several stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for further care and the injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
The suspect left the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
Investigators determined the suspect was 41-year-old Jimmy Prophete of Cedar Rapids. He was taken into custody with the assistance of Marshalltown police. Prophete is in the Linn County Jail and faces charges of Attempted Murder, Going Armed with Intent, and Assault Domestic Abuse Causing Serious Injury.
Court records show Prophete was arrested for Domestic Abuse Causing Serious Injury on March 19th. A no-contact order was issued on the 21st when he was released on his own recognizance pending future court dates. Prophete was also charged upon his arrest for violating that order.
