An Iowa City woman who was charged with child endangerment early this year was taken into custody over the weekend for violating a no-contact order.

Police were called to the Broadway Street residence of 29-year-old Shaunternika Fleming Saturday afternoon due to being there with her 8-year-old child. Fleming is prohibited from contact with the child because of an incident on January 4th when she allegedly bit the child and hit her with a glass bottle of hot sauce. The bite mark was reportedly still visible 40 minutes after the initial call for service, and the child had a large welt and abrasion on her back from being struck by the bottle.

According to the police report from that day, Fleming’s two other children were shoved aside as they tried to prevent her from attacking their sister. Marijuana was also reportedly found unsecured on a kitchen shelf accessible to the child.

Fleming reportedly violated the no contact order on April 4th and claimed that she came back to the residence immediately after bonding out of jail because she misunderstood the paperwork.

Fleming was taken into custody again and charged with contempt. She remains there as of this morning on $5000 bond. A bond hearing is scheduled for this Friday.  She faces up to ten years in prison if convicted on all counts stemming from the January 4th incident; court records show a plea deal has reportedly been reached and Fleming is due to be sentenced on April 27th.
