An Iowa City armed robbery suspect has entered a “not guilty” plea.
21-year-old Calvin Beemer entered the plea Friday in Johnson County court.
According to police, Beemer came to the victim’s home in the Cole’s manufactured housing community on February 19th and confronted and assaulted the victim while displaying a replica gun. He then reportedly pointed it in the victim’s direction and threatened to kill them.
Beemer then allegedly tried to force the victim into his Chevy Silverado truck before punching them in the nose, causing bleeding. Beemer then took the victim’s cellphone.
Arriving officers located Beemer in his truck, activated their lights and ordered him out of the vehicle. He reportedly ignored police, drove away, then fled on foot.
Beemer was arrested and charged with 1st degree Robbery and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to over 25 years in prison.
Arraignment is set for this coming Friday.
