A suspect in an Iowa City burglary case has been arrested after he was confronted by his alleged victim.

Iowa City Police were called to the corner of Burlington and Dodge Streets just before 5:30 Tuesday night for a report of a male subject using a crowbar to try to enter an apartment. Arriving officers report seeing 30-year-old Jesse James Nicastri of South Dodge Street running from another subject. Nicastri was carrying a laptop and reportedly ignored officers’ orders to stop. He was captured after an approximately one-block foot chase.

An investigation determined that Nicastri had entered an apartment with the intent of stealing money or property inside. A resident said he found Nicastri inside and a scuffle ensued, resulting in injuries to the victim. That’s when Nicastri reportedly grabbed the $500 laptop and fled.

Nicastri reportedly had a meth pipe in his possession upon his arrest. He now faces charges of 1st Degree Burglary, Interference With Official Acts, 4th Degree Theft and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 26 years in prison.
