A Fort Dodge man has been arrested after an incident earlier this year where he attempted to mobile-deposit two checks which had been altered.

Police say the incident occurred January 27th at Midwest One Bank on 1st Avenue in Coralville.  According to the criminal complaint, 38-year-old Joseph Cook of Fort Dodge mobile deposited two checks which were in fact the same check, altered twice.

The check number, “pay to the order from” and dollar amounts were allegedly altered. The check was originally drawn by the City of Iowa City, and Cook reportedly was not the original payee on the check.

A warrant was issued March 14th; Cook was arrested early Friday morning. He’s been charged with Forgery, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
