The Marion teenager accused of being part of a drive-by shooting last fall near Shueyville was reportedly on parole and violated terms of his parole dozens of times.
According to the original criminal complaint, 19-year-old Bryant Wallace of 4th Avenue was driving a black minivan towards the victim’s residence on Hickory Hollow Road just before 5:45pm on November 2nd. He slowed down so his teenage accomplice could shoot four rounds from a 9mm handgun out the van window at the victim’s camper.
Wallace is reported to have helped lock and load the handgun.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Tuesday morning indicating they were able to tie Wallace to the scene because he was wearing a GPS ankle monitor from the Department of Corrections.
KCRG TV now reports that court documents show Wallace violated his probation more than 50 times from August 2021 to March 2023. Most of Wallace’s violations occurred from August 2021 to July 2022, and were mostly related to issues around his location, missing sexual abuse treatment programs and allowing the battery on the GPS around his ankle to die.
An official with the Department of Correctional Services for the 6th District told the station Wallace was arrested in July 2022 for not following the terms of his probation but was released on bond.
About two months later, court documents show Wallace was charged with robbery, theft and assault after he and an accomplice assaulted a man and then took his shoes, cell phone, a pink vape pen and two ounces of marijuana.
Wallace is charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon for the drive-by incident. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
