A Chicago man wanted on a warrant for a contempt charge was arrested earlier this week after allegedly striking a dog.
Police say 36-year-old Mancel Murphy was seen on the 300 block of the Coralville Strip at around 3pm Tuesday hitting a dark-colored pitbull type dog. Witnesses allege Murphy was using his hand to strike the dog, who reportedly was audibly yelping at the abuse.
Police arrested Murphy, who had an outstanding warrant from last month after failing to appear on a Show of Cause or Contempt charge. He now faces an additional Animal Abuse charge, and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.
