University of Iowa pitcher Brody Brecht has announced plans to focus exclusively on baseball.
Brecht had also been a wide receiver for the Hawkeye football program. He caught nine passes for 87 yards last fall in his redshirt freshman season. The Ankeny native has excelled for the Iowa baseball team this year, compiling a 2.20 ERA in six appearances, including a 2-1 record with 46 strikeouts against 21 walks.
Brecht said on social media Friday that while it was always his dream to play football for Iowa, his passion has become baseball. He thanked the coaches, teammates and fans and said he hopes to one day play baseball at the Major League level.
