A science teacher at Regina High School has been charged with sexually exploiting a minor while he was working at another school.

37-year-old Cody LaKose was taken into custody on Tuesday on a warrant from the DeWitt Police Department. LaKose was a science teacher at Central DeWitt when he allegedly began a sexual relationship with a student in 2017.

Police say LaKose and the girl had sex inside his office at Central Dewitt, and that the two had private exchanges on Twitter…including exchanging nude photos.

LaKose resigned from Central Dewitt in 2018.

The girl reported the relationship to police earlier this month, saying she was worried LaKose would groom students in his new job at Regina…where LaKose’s social media accounts say he currently works. Multiple online articles also list LaKose as a Regina teacher as recently as last year.

LaKose faces a charge of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and five counts of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 21 years in prison.
