A rollover accident that sent a vehicle into Ralston Creek overnight has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.
Iowa City Police were called to a 2014 Ford Fiesta that had driven off the roadway into the creek near the intersection of Gilbert and Benton Streets just after 1:45 Sunday morning. Officers say they observed the driver, 25-year-old Mitchel Brady of West Benton Street, climbing out of the creek bed. He claimed he thought mechanical issues were to blame.
Police say Brady…whose birthday was on Saturday…was wearing two bar wrist bands, had a bar stamp on his hand, smelled of ingested alcohol, and showed signs of impairment. He reportedly initially denied drinking, then admitted to having one beer hours prior to driving. Brady claimed he couldn’t feel any effects of alcohol, despite appearing to be unsteady on his feet.
Brady was taken to a local hospital for observation, despite not reporting any injuries. He refused all breath and chemical testing.
Upon his release, Brady was charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
