An Iowa City woman who provided false information to acquire a weapon despite a felony adjudication has been arrested.

Police say 22-year-old Ariah Castro of South Johnson Street went to the firearms section of Scheels in the Coral Ridge Mall the afternoon of February 27th.  A clerk was seen on surveillance video opening a gun cabinet and showing Castro a handgun. Castro then reportedly filled out a firearm transaction form, where she stated she was not a convicted felon. A check of criminal records showed Castro had been convicted as an adjudicated delinquent from a 1st degree robbery case when she was 17.

Castro was subsequently interviewed by police and allegedly admitted knowing she was an adjudicated delinquent and ineligible to purchase firearms.

A warrant was requested March 10th; Castro was arrested early Monday and charged with giving false information to  purchase a weapon, and dominion or control of a firearm as a felon. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
