A Tiffin man was arrested for OWI after a trooper observed him fall over when he exited his vehicle.

The incident reportedly took place just after 1am Tuesday. The trooper had just filled up his squad car at the Kum & Go in Tiffin and was ready to leave when he saw 64-year-old Terrance Disterhoft of Copi Road Northwest pull into the parking lot and park in front of the store. He allegedly used his vehicle for balance as he slowly walked towards the store. As the trooper went to leave, he observed Disterhoft fall over backwards and strike his head.

The trooper returned to give medical care and allegedly noticed the odor of alcohol on his person. Disterhoft was reportedly unable to do field testing, and chemical testing showed his blood-alcohol level just shy of three times the legal limit to drive.

A check of Disterhoft’s driving record showed his license being recently suspended in January for being incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely.

Disterhoft was charged with first offense OWI and driving while suspended. If convicted, he faces a jail sentence of up to one year.
