A transient faces charges that he threatened a woman with a knife in Coralville.

65-year-old Nathaniel Burgs Sr. was wanted for an incident that reportedly occurred just before 9am last June 3rd on the 700 block of 13th Avenue. Coralville Police say Burgs locked himself into a garage without permission. The renter of the residence confronted Burgs, who then left the garage and walked away. The woman called 9-1-1 while following Burgs as he was leaving. As she was giving police Burgs’ description and his direction of travel, he allegedly turned around, pulled a long knife out of his overalls and displayed it towards the woman from a few feet away.

The woman told police she had chased Burgs out of the garage several times before by either yelling at him or calling the police.

Burgs was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2am Thursday and charged with Assault While Displaying a Weapon and Trespassing. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.

Burgs was also wanted for failing to appear at a January 2022 arraignment on a Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury charge after he allegedly attacked and injured his then-live-in partner with a stick at their former 10th Avenue residence. That charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
