An Iowa City man who police say was suspected in multiple burglaries around the area was taken into custody.

Police conducted a search warrant at the residence 27-year-old Jerome Brooks on February 1st. According to the criminal complaints, police found property and/or evidence from at least nine burglary and theft incidents reported to ICPD.  Property included a AAA Insurance card, ID cards, debit cards, credit cards, a parking pass,  checks, mail, and a  Starbucks reward card. Other items, such as cash and jewelry from the burglaries, were not recovered.

In all, seven counts of 3rd degree theft were filed.

Brooks was also wanted from an incident in May of last year, when he entered the McDonalds on Lower Muscatine Road while it was closed through a malfunctioning door. After determining there was no working alarm, he was able to get into a safe that had been accidentally unlocked and allegedly grabbed over $5200 in cash. Two I-Pads were also reportedly stolen.

High-def surveillance cameras were functional during the incident, and the investigating officer got nearly a dozen officers to identify Brooks from photos sent out.

Brooks faces 2nd degree Theft and 3rd degree Burglary charges for that incident. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 24 years in prison.
