The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has forecast a snow event for tomorrow.
In a release today, the forecast has trended colder with more snow than rain for most areas north of a Fairfield to Galesburg line. This has resulted in a shift southward in the snowfall amounts and an expansion of the winter storm watch.
Moderate to heavy snow is expected north of Interstate 80, with 3-7 inches in the forecast Thursday and Thursday night. Iowa City is right on the line, and is expected to get at least 2 inches with up to 4+ inches likely.
North of I-80, the Cedar Rapids area could get up to 9 inches, with amounts in Waterloo up to 11 inches.
Warm ground and above freezing temperatures during the day on Thursday are resulting in a lower confidence in snow amounts south of Iowa City with the Quad Cities predicted to get anywhere from 1-5 inches.
The Weather Service will update their forecast as the storm nears.
