An Iowa City man convicted of a weapons offense in 2020 was arrested after it was allegedly discovered he had a pistol that he sold to a 19 year-old man.

Police arrested a man on September 25th 2021 in Iowa City who had a pistol with the serial number obliterated. The subject claimed he had purchased it from 21-year-old Marwan Abdull Maged of Bartelt Road earlier in the month at a Tiffin gas station.  The subject identified Abdull Maged by his first name and confirmed his identity through a mug shot.

An investigation determined cellphone data showed the two communicating around the time of the sale and Abdull Maged warning the subject about the ammunition loaded in the pistol.  Search warrants recovered video of the man shooting and possessing a pistol looking similar to the one he sold to the subject.

A warrant was issued in June of 2022; Abdull Maged was taken into custody Monday morning . He’s been charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, and Providing a Firearm to a person under 21.  If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to six years.
