A Cedar Rapids man wanted on warrants stemming from a 2022 theft case in Iowa City has been arrested.

According to police, 37-year-old Michael Berckes or Pine Wood Drive Northeast and his accomplice visited the victim’s home on Freund Street the afternoon of June 9th. While one victim was in another room of the residence and the other had left for work, Berckes and the accomplice allegedly packed up and removed several items. They reportedly included a handgun, two shotguns, an antique rifle, a compound hunting bow, a pair of motorcycle boots, an antique tobacco pipe, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

A warrant was requested for Berckes, a convicted felon, on June 17th. Early Monday, he was taken to the Johnson County Jail. He’s been charged with 2nd degree Theft and Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, and could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted on both counts.
