A trooper for the Iowa State Patrol arrested an unusual drunk driving suspect in Shueyville early Saturday morning…a man who allegedly thanked him for taking him off the road.

Arrest records indicate 48-year-old Zachary Siela of Cedar Falls pulled his 2018 Chevy Silverado into the parking lot of the BP station on 120th Street…just off the northbound Interstate 380 exit…just after 2:45 Saturday morning. The business was closed at the time.

Siela was being followed by a trooper for the State Patrol who reports seeing the vehicle driving erratically. Upon contact, Siela reportedly showed signs of intoxication, smelled of ingested alcohol and admitted to drinking.

The trooper reports Siela thanked him for taking him off the roadway.

Siela allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and provided a breath alcohol level of .173%. He was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
