Iowa City Police have arrested a transient they say harassed customers in a fast food drive-thru after being told to leave the premises.

Officers were called to Burger King on Boyrum Street just after 9:45 Wednesday night for a woman refusing to leave. BK employees claim 45-year-old Jeannine Torres had been inside the restaurant for over three-and-a-half hours. She claimed she was waiting for a ride to Cedar Rapids.

Police told Torres she needed to leave because employees were trying to close the dining room for the night, but she refused. She only left when an officer took her personal belongings outside.

Once outside, Torres allegedly began walking up-and-down the cars lined up in the drive-thru, directing what police describe as “vile, abusive epithets” at the occupants of each vehicle.

Torres pleaded guilty to a trespassing charge on Thursday and was fined $260.

Torres is currently facing an unrelated 4th Degree Criminal Mischief charge after allegedly trashing an apartment on Cross Park Avenue in January.
