An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant stemming from an incident early last month that allegedly found him naked and yelling during a burglary at the Salvation Army.

60-year-old Brett Ayers of Taylor Drive was reportedly found inside the business on Gilbert Court the morning of February 7th.  The criminal complaint says he barricaded himself in a room by piling chairs and other items in front of the door, and was naked and yelling.

Staff said that Ayers entered the building by breaking a window on the front of the building. He allegedly damaged several items, including windows, tables, chairs, an Xbox, air fryer, ceiling tiles, walls, cupboards, and a refrigerator. Ayers also reportedly took meat from the kitchen freezer and ate it.

A warrant was issued for his arrest the next day; he was taken into custody Tuesday evening. Ayers faces 3rd degree Burglary and 2nd degree Criminal Mischief charges, and could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if convicted.
