Hills caregiver accused of stealing from adult patient

A Hills woman working as an in-home care provider has been arrested and charged with stealing from her adult patient.

According to the arrest report, 27-year-old Amelia Simmons of Brady Street worked with the victim, a dependent adult. Between July 13th and August 28th of 2022, Simmons reportedly used the victim’s payroll bank cards to make purchases and ATM withdrawals from the victim’s account. Unauthorized purchase totaled $25.55, while the ATM withdrawals totaled $1120.  There were reportedly 14 transactions, five of which were conducted in Hills.

A warrant was issued on December 20th ; Simmons was taken into custody Monday night. She’s been charged with two counts of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, 3rd Degree Theft, and Dependent Adult Abuse. If convicted on all charges, Simmons could be sentenced to up to eleven years in prison.
