The latest spring flood outlook from the National Weather Service indicates what it calls “well above average risk for flooding” for the Mississippi River. But the organization goes on to say the flood risk for tributaries such as the Iowa, Cedar and Wapsipinicon Rivers is near normal.

The weather service says the main factors favoring flooding along the Mississippi are rate of snowmelt, additional snowfall, and predicted heavy rains in March through May.
The next spring flood outlook will be released on March 9th.
