Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies say a drunk driving suspect who was given a second chance was arrested after taking an Uber back to his car and trying to drive away.
According to arrest records, 53-year-old Victor Mendoza Sanchez of Muscatine was pulled over for speeding on Highway 6 near Taft Avenue early Saturday morning. Mendoza Sanchez reportedly showed signs of intoxication. Instead of being arrested, Mendoza Sanchez was instead given a ride to the Keokuk Street Kwik Star and told not to drive.
The same deputy says just after 1:15am he saw Mendoza Sanchez get out of an Uber near his car parked along Highway 6. He then reportedly entered the car and started driving away.
Mendoza Sanchez was stopped and allegedly admitted to having three beers prior to driving. He performed poorly on field sobriety testing and produced a breath alcohol level of .124%.
Mendoza Sanchez was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
