An Iowa City man was taken into custody after allegedly threatening a resident of his apartment complex, and refusing to cooperate with investigating officers.

34-year-old Christopher Cummings and the victim live in the same South Dodge Street apartment building on different floors. The victim reported to police that he had suffered ongoing harassment from Cummings for at least a week.  One incident occurred on February 3rd at 10:15 am in the common hallway.

The victim alleges that the threats are unprovoked, and because of fearing for his safety is moving out. Police say Cummings refuses to cooperate with their investigation.

A warrant for the man’s arrest was issued on February 6th. On Thursday afternoon, police visited Cummings’ apartment, and he allegedly attempted to barricade the door to prevent them entering. He then reportedly tried to flee out an open window, despite officer commands to stop.

Cummings faces charges of 2nd degree Harassment and Interference with a DCS Officer. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
