The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says that the number of  new COVID cases dropped in the past week, but hospitalizations rose.

The case numbers went down to 1581, 2.8 percent less than the previous week. That reverses two weeks where numbers were rising. Johnson County cases dropped from 104 to 86, and Linn County had the lowest number of new cases since April last year, falling from 141 to 104.

It’s likely there were more cases, as people who test positive using home tests aren’t always reported.

COVID cases hospitalized increased for the second consecutive week, this time by more than 17 percent, from 135 last week to 159 this week. However, cases being treated by intensive care units dropped from 16 to 10.
