An Iowa City man accused of stealing packages from an apartment complex was reportedly caught with drugs when searched by police.
Officers responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of a theft of packages from a South Dodge Street apartment complex. The reporting party provided a description of the alleged thief that matched 31-year-old Yshan Rogers, also of South Dodge Street, who was located by another officer a short distance away.
Rogers reportedly agreed to a search of his backpack, and the officer allegedly located a package of Swiffer duster pads. Video of the theft was obtained from surveillance footage, reportedly confirming Rogers was the offender. He led officers to discarded packages from the theft and admitted to taking the pads.
A search of his backpack was agreed to, and police reportedly found a prescription bottle in someone else’s name containing a heart medication, and a bottle Rogers identified as CBD.
Rogers was arrested and charged with 3rd degree theft, unlawful possession of a prescription drug and a controlled substance violation. If convicted on all counts, Rogers could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
