A jury convicted a Chicago man of ten charges Tuesday stemming from a June 2021 incident in which he robbed a Casey’s store in Coggin and shot a Linn County deputy seven times.

The Gazette reports that 38-year-old Stanley Donahue laughed when the 10 guilty verdicts were read. As he left the courtroom in handcuffs he looked at the deputy involved, William Halverson, said, “It should’ve been worse than it was,” and cursed at him.

Halverson showed up at the convenience store, responding to a silent alarm after Donahue locked two employees in a cooler and took their wallet and purse. He says he grabbed Donahue’s arm as he was standing at the counter, and Donahue turned around and began firing, hitting him in the hip and leg. It took Halverson over a year to recover from the shooting.

Donahue was convicted of attempted murder of a peace officer, two charges of first-degree robbery, willful injury causing serious injury, attempt to elude, two charges of false imprisonment, trafficking in stolen weapons, disarming a peace officer and felon in possession of a firearm. He could face up to 107 years in prison at sentencing.
