An Iowa City man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a residence at Cole’s Mobile Home park and assaulting the resident.
According to police, 21-year-old Calvin Beemer came to the victim’s home and confronted and assaulted the victim while displaying a replica gun. The victim described the gun as a small black handgun, and said that Beemer pulled it from his hoodie pocket and displayed it. He then reportedly pointed it in the victim’s direction and threatened to kill the victim.
Beemer allegedly tried to force the victim into his Chevy Silverado truck, and then punched the victim in the nose, causing bleeding. Beemer then took the victim’s cellphone.
Arriving officers located Beemer in his truck, activated their lights and ordered him out of the vehicle. He reportedly ignored police, drove away, then fled on foot.
Beemer was arrested and charged with 1st degree Robbery and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to over 25 years in prison.
