Riverside man arrested after alleged bomb threat at Cedar Rapids Walmart

A Riverside man was arrested Sunday after allegedly making a bomb threat at a Cedar Rapids business.

According to a release from the city’s police department, the verbal threat was made at around 6:15 pm in the automotive section of Walmart on the 3600 block of 29th Avenue Southwest. The extra on-duty officer at the store notified the Cedar Rapids Metro Hazardous Devices Unit of the threat; the Walmart and businesses in the immediate vicinity were evacuated.

An explosive detection robot was deployed while technicians searched a suspect car in the service area, but no evidence of explosives was found.

About 90 minutes after the threat, the area was declared safe by Cedar Rapids Police.

56-year-old Roy Boughner of Riverside was arrested. He’s charged with Harassment and Disorderly Conduct. The investigation is ongoing.
