A transient faces charges that he stole a bicycle that had been parked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

46-year-old Louis Church was booked into the Johnson County Jail earlier this week. University of Iowa Police say Church was found in possession of a stolen bike valued at $850. The bicycle was reported stolen from the UIHC.

Church allegedly admitted to cutting the lock and taking it without permission. He’s charged with 3rd Degree Theft, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of two years in jail.

UI Police have reported a recent rise in bicycle thefts on campus.
