An Iowa City robbery suspect has been given a suspended sentence.
23-year-old Lewis Robinson III of 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids entered a guilty plea in September. Earlier this week Judge David Cox gave him a suspended ten-year sentence on a 1st Degree Theft charge. Robbery and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons charges were dropped.
Iowa City Police say Robinson and an accomplice assaulted the alleged victim outside the East Burlington Street Kum & Go around 2:15am on October 3rd of 2021. The pair allegedly took the man’s gun before fleeing.
The incident was caught on surveillance video.
The alleged victim said he knew Robinson from previous interactions. Robinson reportedly admitted to being at the scene.
