There’s been more drama with the lighted, inflatable bunnies on Iowa City’s Ped Mall.
Iowa City Police report seeing 18-year-old Ian Morris of Chicago urinating on a rabbit located in Blackhawk Park near Dubuque and Washington Streets just after 1:30 Saturday morning. The officer reports observing the incident while sitting in his squad car parked on the Ped Mall. When approached, Morris reportedly claimed he was sixteen years old. Police say he showed signs of intoxication, and a fake ID was allegedly found on his person upon his arrest.
Morris is charged with Public Intoxication and Possession of a Fictitious License. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
The Ped Mall bunnies, sponsored by the Iowa City Downtown District, are part of a holiday display celebrating the Chinese “Year of the Rabbit”. The rabbit located between the Bread Garden Market and the Iowa City Public Library was stolen around 1:50 Thursday morning, then returned later in the day. The same bunny was damaged last weekend when a subject reportedly stomped on it.
The Iowa City Police Daily Activity Log indicates extra patrol has been requested to keep the bunnies safe.
