The Johnson County Board of Supervisors have unanimously approved Fiscal Year 2024 salary increases for themselves and other elected officials.
The Daily Iowan reports that during their Wednesday meeting, the Supervisors drastically lowered the proposed increases they received from the Compensation Board. Those increases were 16 percent for the county attorney, 12 percent for the sheriff, and 10 percent for the supervisors, auditor, recorder and treasurer. They based the figures on inflation and to keep the salaries competitive with other counties.
The Board voted to give the attorney a 2.5 percent increase, the sheriff 1.8 percent, and the others 1.56 percent.
Board Chair Lisa Green Douglass originally proposed giving officials a quarter of the compensation board recommendations, which was supported by supervisor Royceann Porter. Vice-Chair Rod Sullivan reportedly was adamant that the raises stay at or below that of staff raises already approved.
The DI reports that supervisor V Fixmer-Oraiz also said they wanted to make reforms to the current system of how supervisors and officials salaries are determined. Supervisors discussed holding a joint meeting between elected officials and the compensation board later this year, potentially as early as June or July.
