The case of an Iowa City man who was charged with sexual abuse in 2013 before being acquitted by a jury will be heard by the state Supreme Court next week.

The Daily Iowan reports that Josh Venckus filed a lawsuit in 2018 against Iowa City police detective Andrew Rich, accusing him of malicious prosecution. Attorneys for Venckus say detective Rich ignored the fact that he was in Chicago at his parents’ house at the time of the alleged assault, and believed Venckus to be guilty even if he could not prove it.

The court will hear arguments a week from today, February 21st, at 9am.
