A Johnson County Supervisor is embarking on a new endeavor.
Supervisor Royceann Porter wrote on her Facebook page that she plans to open a soul food restaurant in the former Slumberland location in Pepperwood Plaza. Royceann’s Soul Food Cottage is scheduled to open next month.
Porter says she honed her soul food cooking skills making large meals for family and friends after church. Samples from Porter’s restaurant will be available at a special free event on Friday at 5pm at the Coralville Public Library as part of Black History Month. That event will also feature a free screening of the documentary “Soul Food Junkie”.
Porter has not expressed any plans to step down from the Board to devote time to the restaurant’s launch or day-to-day operations.
