The repair and improvements to the Gilbert Street Bridge will cause the street to be closed this spring.
The Daily Iowan reports the $2.9 million renovation project is set to start in April and be completed in October. Deterioration on the bridge will be repaired, and improved water drainage systems will be added. The Iowa Department of Transportation is providing $1 million in funding for the project.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, Special Project Administrator Melissa Clow said that the city will construct a temporary driveway and parking lot on the north side of the bridge so that people can still park and access the area during the closure.
The project will open for bids on March 21st, with the successful bidder announced April 4th.
