Hawkeye alum Keegan Murray had the best night of his brief NBA career Monday night in the Sacramento Kings’ 140-120 win in Houston.
The All-American from Cedar Rapids Prairie had 30 points on 65% shooting, including 8 of 12 from behind the 3-point arc. That’s a new career high for the rookie lottery pick, who also tallied six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Among rookies, Murray ranks first in 3-point field goals made (119) and 3-point shooting percentage while also sitting fourth in total points (579) and points per game.
The Kings start Tuesday with a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific Division, and currently have the third-best record in the Western Conference 6 1/2 games behind Denver and two games behind Memphis.
Earlier on Monday Murray was selected to play in the Michael Jordan Rising Stars Game during the All-Star Break in Salt Lake City. The game airs Friday night at 8 on TNT.
A quirk in the NBA schedule has Sacramento playing in Houston twice in a row with a 7pm tipoff Wednesday night.
