An Iowa City man was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly helping himself to several items at a South Gilbert Street convenience store.

An officer responded to the Kum & Go at approximately 9:50 am on reports from staff that 35-year-old Todd Brodie of the Quarters Apartment Complex on Highway 6 E had stolen multiple items. He reportedly located Brodie in the parking area by the dumpsters with an open Budweiser in his hand.

Brodie allegedly ignored the officer when he asked him to identify himself, and continued drinking the beer in front of him.  A post-arrest PBT was refused.

Brodie was charged with Consumption of Alcohol in a Public Place and 5th degree theft.

On the night of January 18th, witnesses and video footage allegedly showed Brodie acting strangely and making aggressive statements to Quarters personnel. The next morning, management discovered a window broken on Brodie’s apartment and one nearby. Video footage reportedly showed Brodie had broken both of them by punching them. He was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief in that case.

If convicted on charges relating to both incidents, Brodie could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
