Official web sites for University of Iowa Health Care experienced what school officials call “intermittent outages” on Tuesday, and the cause appears to be cyberterrorism.
A note at the top of the front page for uiowa.edu Tuesday read, “The public websites for University of Iowa Health Care are currently experiencing intermittent outages. Patient care continues uninterrupted and MyChart is available.”
A Russian hacking group has claimed responsibility for the outage, as well as similar attacks on other hospitals nationwide. Last month, the Department of Health and Human Services warned that the group KillNet might try such an attack.
UI Health officials has not officially confirmed it has been the target of an attack.
