The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday that Hawkeye junior Caitlin Clark has been named to the 2023 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Midseason Top 10. Clark won the award in 2022.
The list is comprised of student-athletes who are currently in the running for the 24th annual Lieberman Award, recognizing the best point guard in women’s basketball. The list is chosen based on their floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills.
This season, Clark is the only player in the nation with more than 550 points, 160 rebounds, 160 assists, and 30 steals. She leads the Hawkeyes with 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game.
Fan voting opens up this Friday on www.hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. In March, five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee where a winner will be selected.
Clark was Big Ten Player of the Year in 2022 and a Naismith and Wooden Award finalist.
The Hawkeyes are in action twice this week. They host Maryland on Thursday at 7:30 pm; Tickets are available for the game at www.hawkeyesports.com and ESPN will be the TV outlet. Sunday, Iowa travels to Penn State for an 11 am game which will be seen on BTN.
