COVID cases have declined once again in the past week, according to the latest report from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
There were 1690 new infections confirmed, a drop of 23 percent from the last week. Hospitalizations dropped by 20 percent.
The new case figure does not include positive tests from home kits that aren’t reported by those infected.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the new omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant form of the coronavirus has yet to become the dominant strain in the Midwest. 82 percent of the new cases in the Northeast are attributed to the new strain, but only 9 percent in Iowa and 3 other Midwest states.
