Three special elections are coming up this March 7th in Johnson County.
According to the auditor’s page on the county website, the special elections will occur in the College Community and Solon School districts, as well as the City of Swisher.
Voters in the College Community School District will vote on a ten-year property tax levy of 67 cents per thousand dollars in assessed value to pay for school and municipal improvements starting with fiscal year 2024.
In Solon, voters will decide on a $25.5 million bond to build an addition to Solon Intermediate School, renovate Lakeview Elementary, build a new Administrative building, construct a new multipurpose indoor activity facility, and install a new field at Spartan Stadium.
The Swisher special election involves voters deciding on whether the city should establish their own Municipal Waterworks Utility.
Other jurisdictions are also considering special elections on March 7, but nothing else has been officially announced.
Early voting for each election will begin Wednesday, February 15 and run through Monday, March 6 at the Auditor’s office on South Dubuque Street in Iowa City between 8am-5pm weekdays. Absentee Ballot Request forms can currently be accepted. They can be printed off at home, or the Auditor’s office can mail one if requested by phone. Request forms must be received by 5:00 pm February 20.
