Area transient allegedly chased man while brandishing replica gun

An area transient was taken into custody when he allegedly chased a man while displaying a toy replica and pellet gun.

The incident occurred at around 2:15 pm Sunday in the 1900 block of Gilbert Street.  Officers responded to reports of  a man, identified as 30-year-old Willie Collins, chasing another man while displaying the firearms. Police say Collins then picked up a large wooden board and swung it at the man.

It was determined that Collins was actually armed with a toy replica gun and a pellet gun.  The toy replica gun was found in Collins’ pants pocket after arrest, while the pellet gun was located under a vehicle in the immediate vicinity of where Collins was apprehended.

Collins also allegedly had a small ziplock bags containing marijuana and methamphetamine.

He’s been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, assault, and prohibited carrying of toy guns. If convicted on all charges, Collins could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
