A Coralville man who was taken into custody for allegedly selling meth and marijuana in the area was reportedly found with the drugs at the hotel he was checked into.
The trouble started for 32-year-old Demarco May of Holiday Road back in June, when he was stopped near the intersection of Highland Court and Gilbert Court the afternoon of the 6th for a non-working taillight and a cracked windshield. A K9 alerted to drugs in the vehicle, and officers reportedly located about 30 grams of a substance consistent with marijuana and a pipe used for smoking the drug. He was charged with marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.
On the evening of November 30th, May was stopped again, this time near the intersection of Highway 6 and Broadway Street. After a K9 alerted to drugs, officers found over 350 grams of marijuana packaged individually. May also reportedly had scales and small plastic bags used for packaging the drug. He was subsequently charged with a Controlled Substance violation, failure to affix Drug Stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Warrants were issued on January 9th, and the next evening May was arrested at the Staybridge Suites on the Iowa River Landing in Coralville. He allegedly was in possession of a package filled with a “Cheetos-like” substance inside. The package label said it contained a Schedule 1 controlled substance and THC. Under Miranda, May admitted the substance was edibiles.
A further search of the room located 47 grams of meth and 183 grams of marijuana. May reportedly admitted that he had been selling the drugs to clients over the past three months. He was charged with two counts of Controlled Substance violation and two Tax Stamp violations.
If convicted on all counts facing him, May faces a prison term of up to over 52 years.
