Midday tie up on I380 leads to fatality

A driver was killed Tuesday when they hit a semi slowed down by a towing operation on Interstate 380.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, traffic on the northbound portion of the interstate had slowed down and started to back up to the 7 mile marker at around 11:30 am due to a towing operation two miles ahead. A 2000 Volvo rear-ended the trailer of the semi, killing the driver in the collision. Northbound traffic was blocked for a few hours after the incident.

The name of the driver has been identified by the ISP as 37-year-old Eric Taylor of Cedar Rapids. The accident remains under investigation.
