The Iowa City Council unanimously appointed Adam Dunn to fill the seat vacated by Janice Weiner’s election to the state Senate.
Dunn was among 21 applicants for the position and among seven finalists given a ten minute window at Tuesday’s City Council meeting to make a presentation. The 24-year-old will serve out the final year of the four-year at-large council term which ends January 2nd next year.
Dunn recently ran in the Democratic primary to represent Iowa House District 90 but lost to Adam Zabner, who now holds the seat. He said in his application that renters’ issues and affordable housing are among his priorities. He’s the only renter on the council and said he’s also a voice for young professionals in Iowa City.
Dunn serves on the boards of the Iowa Farmers Union and Sustainable Iowa Land Trust.
