Reported COVID cases dropped nearly 40 percent in Iowa last week, according to the latest data.

Although the actual total is much higher due to at-home positive tests not being reported, the official data showed nearly 2150 new cases in the past week. The previous week’s total was nearly 3500.

Johnson County cases dropped from 207 to 120, and in Linn County they dropped from 327 to just 192.

Hospitalizations also decreased, by 11 percent to 243.

Another 36 deaths were confirmed, bringing the total of Iowans succumbing to the virus to 10,423.

Officials have predicted another spike in cases due to holiday gatherings and continue to recommend masking when indoors with multiple people.
